The objective of this report is to offer an assessment of the state of the private rental sector in the United Kingdom, to issue some viewpoints in relation to the debates surrounding the topic and, finally, to make policy recommendations
The author finds that the growth of the privately rented sector over the previous fifteen years has been a major success and that success has been driven primarily by market forces. Michael Ball concludes that the objective of policy should be to maintain the status quo.
